Pool service in Citrus Hills, FL
The Villages of Citrus Hills covers around ten thousand homes built between 1982 and today, spread across fifteen named communities on some of the highest ground in Citrus County. With only three shared community pools serving all of it, most people here who want to swim at home have their own, which makes private pool service more of a necessity than an amenity.
Splashworks has worked this part of Florida for more than 30 years. We clean, repair and upgrade pools across Citrus Hills on a set day each week, send a photo report every visit, and never ask for a contract.

Your water comes from a wellfield inside the community
Citrus Hills is served by Citrus County Utilities through the Charles A. Black system, which draws from eight wells in the Floridan aquifer. The largest of the treatment facilities, Charles A. Black I, is located in Citrus Hills itself, so the water in your pool has travelled a remarkably short distance from the ground to your hose.
It is chlorinated for disinfection and nothing else. No softening step, which means whatever mineral content the aquifer carries arrives intact. Citrus County does not publish a hardness figure, so we will not invent one, but the Floridan aquifer across this region runs hard to very hard and Citrus Hills sits on the Brooksville Ridge, sandhill over limestone, which is exactly the geology that produces it.
What that means in practice is straightforward. Calcium concentrates in the pool as water evaporates and gets replaced, and once pH drifts above roughly 7.8 it starts plating out on tile, salt cells and heat exchangers. Watching pH and calcium together is what keeps it in the water rather than on the surfaces.
Weekly pool cleaning under the live oaks
Each visit brushes the walls, steps and benches, nets the surface, vacuums, empties the skimmer and pump baskets, checks the filter, and tests and balances the water, finished with a photo report. Our residential pool cleaning covers the routine in detail.
Citrus Hills has genuine mature tree canopy, with live oaks across much of the older sections and around the golf courses. That is part of what makes the place attractive and it is also the main reason pools here need attention. Oak leaves carry tannins that will tint a light plaster finish, acorns sink and sit, and the organic matter left behind feeds algae. On a shaded lot the netting, basket and filter work is a larger share of the visit than the chemistry.
Gated access and Terra Vista
Terra Vista is gated with round-the-clock security, and several of the other communities have their own access arrangements. That puts off some service companies and leads others to treat it as a surcharge.
We handle gate access, vendor registration and any community-specific requirements when service is set up, so it stops being something you have to think about. You do not need to be home, and we work tidily and quietly given how close together many of the villa lots sit.
Equipment repair
Unsoftened aquifer water leaves scale inside heat exchangers and across salt cell plates, and with homes here spanning four decades of construction, the equipment we see ranges from nearly new to well past its intended life. A heater that short cycles, a salt cell that will not hold output, a pump that has started to sound different. We repair pumps, filters, heaters, salt systems, automation and pool lights, and on older equipment we will tell you honestly when a repair is worth it. A service call is $150, or $95 if the pool is already on one of our routes, with the price agreed first.
Upgrades worth making
With the oak debris load here, filtration and circulation are where money goes furthest. A variable speed pump running slower and longer filters finer and costs a fraction to operate, because power draw scales with the cube of motor speed, and we ran the numbers on a comparable Florida pool. Automation is worth considering for anyone who is not here year round. LED lighting and saltwater conversion round out what we install, all on our equipment upgrades page.
Leak detection on the ridge
The Brooksville Ridge is sandhill over limestone, so drainage here is fast and a leaking pool rarely leaves a wet patch to find. On the sloped lots common through Terra Vista, escaping water also runs downhill under the deck rather than surfacing.
The signs that do appear are a water bill that climbed without a change in use, chemistry that never holds, air in the return jets, pavers that have begun to tilt, or a level that drops to one height and stops. Our leak detection pressure tests each line, dye tests underwater and uses electronic listening equipment to pinpoint buried plumbing, so the repair usually means opening one area rather than the whole deck. Certified divers do the underwater work and the pool stays full.
Seasonal residents
Plenty of homes here are occupied part of the year. A Florida pool left unattended through a hot week goes green quickly, and one left through a season needs a recovery rather than a clean. We keep those pools balanced and running year round and send the photo report so you can check the property from out of state. Tell us when you are arriving and the water will be ready.
Communities we serve
We cover the Villages of Citrus Hills including Terra Vista and its neighborhoods, Brentwood, Davis Reserve, Presidential Estates, North Ridge, Lexington Greens, Hampton Hills, Celina Hills, Hampshire Hills, Cambridge Green, Canterbury Lake Estates, Clearview Estates and Belmont, along with the surrounding addresses in Hernando and Lecanto. Frequently asked questions
How much does pool service cost in Citrus Hills?
It depends on the pool. Size, screening, how much tree cover it sits under, the condition of the equipment, service frequency and whether chemicals are included all affect the figure. We look at the pool and quote one flat monthly rate with chemicals included, and quote repairs separately before starting.
Do you service Terra Vista?
Yes, along with the rest of the Villages of Citrus Hills. Gate access, vendor registration and any community requirements are arranged when service is set up, and you do not need to be home for a visit.
Is the water in Citrus Hills hard?
It is Floridan aquifer groundwater that gets chlorination and no softening, drawn from the Charles A. Black wellfield right inside the community. Citrus County does not publish a hardness number, but this aquifer across the region runs hard, and scale on tile lines and salt cells here is consistent with that. Managing pH is what keeps it from depositing.
Why do the oaks cause so much trouble for my pool?
Three ways. Leaves and acorns sink and sit on the floor, tannins from decaying oak matter tint a light plaster surface, and the organic material left behind raises the demand on your chlorine while feeding algae. A shaded pool under mature oaks needs more netting and more filter attention than an open one, not just more chemicals.
How often should my pool be serviced?
Weekly for most pools here, particularly under canopy. A screened pool with a salt system and lighter tree cover can often run bi-weekly. Summer heat and afternoon storms move chemistry quickly enough that two weeks between visits in July is a risk.
Can you look after the pool while I am away for the season?
Yes. We keep it balanced and running year round and send a photo report after each visit so you can see it from out of state. Give us your arrival date and the water will be clear when you get here.
Do I need to be home for service?
No. Service runs on the same day each week and the photo report follows afterward.
Can you recover a pool that has gone green?
Yes, as a standalone job. Correcting the chemistry is quick. Clearing the dead algae takes several passes of filtering, brushing and vacuuming, usually three to five days. If the filter is what let it get there, we will say so before you spend on chemicals.
Is there a contract?
No. Residential pool service runs visit to visit and you can stop whenever you want.
